Free tools for the home cook: converters and calculators
Five tools, each built because a recipe needed it.
None of these are here to fill a page. The unit converter is the one inside every recipe card, given somewhere to live; the cost calculator is the arithmetic behind the cost tables; the oven table is printed at the top of every baked recipe. All of them work with JavaScript on and degrade to a readable table without it.
Kitchen unit converter - cups to grams by ingredient
Cups, tablespoons, millilitres, grams and ounces - with the ingredient densities that make a cups-to-grams conversion actually correct.
Recipe scaler - scale any batch up or down
Scale any quantity by any factor, with the results snapped to measurements a kitchen can actually produce.
Oven temperature converter
Fahrenheit, Celsius, fan and gas mark in one table, plus the fan adjustment nobody labels on the dial.
Takeaway cost calculator - a year of orders, costed
What your takeaway habit costs across a year once delivery and service fees are counted - and what the same meals cost cooked at home.
Oven to air fryer converter
Time and temperature adjustments for moving a recipe into an air fryer, with the cases where it does not work.
Why the unit converter is different from the others on the internet
Most cups-to-grams converters use one number for everything, usually 240 g. That is only true for water. Ours carries 104 measured ingredient densities, because a cup of flour is 125 g, a cup of mayonnaise is 224 g and a cup of grated parmesan is 90 g - And a recipe converted with the wrong one of those is a recipe that fails.
