Not every menu item has a recipe here, and that is deliberate - We write a page when there is something genuinely worth saying about how to make the thing.
Two smashed patties by default, no seasoning in the meat, and a free-for-all of toppings. Fifteen minutes.
Skin-on potatoes, fried twice at two temperatures, tossed hot in Cajun seasoning. The oil is doing more of the flavou…
Paprika-heavy, salty, with celery salt underneath. Ninety seconds and a jar that lasts six months.
A thick vanilla base and eight mix-ins you combine yourself. Three minutes a shake.
Peanut oil is not interchangeable here. It is what the fries taste of. Groundnut oil is the same thing under a British name. If nut allergy rules it out, refined rapeseed with a spoonful of sesame oil is the closest honest substitute and the recipe says so.
The chips are fresh potatoes, twice fried, skin on. Once at 150 C to cook through, rest, then once at 190 C to colour.
The Cajun seasoning is paprika-heavy and salty, with celery salt behind it. It is closer to a Louisiana shrimp boil blend than to a barbecue rub.
Five Guys has the shortest menu of any chain here and the highest price per item, which makes it the one where cooking at home saves the most in absolute money. A little bacon cheeseburger and a regular fries in London is a substantial sum for what is, structurally, two thin patties and some chips.
The food is genuinely good and genuinely simple. Two smashed patties, a squishy bun, as many free toppings as you like. The two things worth learning are the double fry for the chips - cooked in peanut oil, which matters for flavour - and the Cajun seasoning, which is the best thing the company sells and takes ninety seconds to blend.

Every reading we hold is on the Five Guys price history. The full list is on the Five Guys menu page, and the 4 items we have rebuilt at home are listed here.
The same item, priced from each country’s own menu and converted to one currency so the columns can be read against each other. Five Guys sets prices per market, so a gap here is the chain’s pricing rather than an exchange rate artefact – and the widest gap on this list is Bacon Cheeseburger, which costs $17.10 in the dearest market and $3.48 in the cheapest.
