Breakfast is the cheapest meal on almost every chain menu and the easiest to reproduce at home, which makes it the largest per-item saving here for anybody currently buying it on the way to work.

It is also, uniquely on this site, a category where the home version is straightforwardly better. A sausage and egg muffin made properly, eaten ninety seconds after the egg comes out of the ring, is a very good breakfast sandwich. The one in the paper bag has been in a warming cabinet.

The practical route is the freezer. Both the muffins and the hash browns are designed around it:

  • Muffins: assembled, wrapped in foil, frozen. Ninety seconds in a microwave wrapped in kitchen paper. About seventy pence each.
  • Hash browns: shaped raw, frozen on a tray. Fried or air-fried from frozen.

One Sunday morning of work gives you a month of weekday breakfasts, which is the only realistic way to have any of this on a Tuesday.

The doughnuts are the exception and deliberately so. They do not keep, they are best ninety seconds out of the fryer, and they are the one thing on this site where the home version beats the shop's by the widest margin - which is exactly what the "Hot Now" sign is admitting.
